Robben Island & Table Mountain shared tour from Cape Town
One coordinated shared day linking Robben Island Museum with Table Mountain when the Cableway operates.
Along the Shaws coordinates the shared Cape Town ground journey, pickup routing and operating order around two independent suppliers. Robben Island Museum controls the ferry, passenger requirements, island visit and voyage decisions; Table Mountain Aerial Cableway controls weather closures, capacity, maintenance, ticket operations and summit access.
The standard Robben Island ferry and museum ticket and the standard Table Mountain Cableway ticket are included in this shared product. That does not make either attraction guaranteed: the ferry remains subject to sea and Museum operations, while the Cableway remains weather and operations dependent. The final sequence is confirmed around the booked ferry departure and the best available mountain window.
Robben Island Museum Operates the Island Visit
The Museum controls the ferry schedule, passenger verification, sea-condition decisions, island programme, amendments and refunds. Guests must meet the supplier’s check-in and identification requirements.
Cableway Operation Is Weather Dependent
Table Mountain may move before or after the ferry according to wind, cloud, visibility, queues and Cableway status. When it cannot operate, an agreed Cape Town viewpoint alternative applies.
Want Table Mountain & City Sights Instead?
Choose the shared city tour when Bo-Kaap, the Castle and Cape Town viewpoints matter more than the ferry and Robben Island programme.
Prefer a Private Cape Town City Tour?
Choose the private city and Table Mountain product for a dedicated vehicle, private pace and a more personalised route; attraction tickets are confirmed separately there.
Prefer Tandem Paragliding?
Compare the shared sightseeing and tandem-paragliding product when a specialist supplier-operated flight is the main experience.
Want the Cape Peninsula Instead?
Compare the private Cape Point & Penguins tour when Chapman’s Peak, Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Beach are the priority.
Your journey
Experience overview
Experience two of Cape Town’s most significant landmarks through one carefully coordinated small-group journey: the history of Robben Island and the natural drama of Table Mountain.
The Robben Island portion is supplier-operated by Robben Island Museum. Guests travel from the Nelson Mandela Gateway at the V&A Waterfront by ferry, complete the official island experience and return to the Waterfront on the scheduled vessel. The standard visit normally takes approximately three and a half to four hours, including both ferry journeys. Ticket availability, passenger details, identification, sea conditions and Museum operations all affect confirmation.
Table Mountain is planned around the confirmed ferry departure and the best available Cableway operating window. When the Cableway is operating and visibility is suitable, the day includes time at the summit using the applicable standard Cableway ticket included in the quotation. Fast Track and other upgrades remain optional extras unless expressly listed. A clear view cannot be guaranteed, and the Cableway may close because of wind, cloud, maintenance, capacity or another operational decision.
This is a shared ground journey. Guests share the vehicle, pickup route and operating schedule with other confirmed travellers, while the Robben Island ferry and island tour may include many additional supplier passengers. Along the Shaws coordinates the Cape Town transport, timing and combined itinerary; the island experience itself is delivered by Robben Island Museum and its appointed guides.
The operating order is flexible but not vague. A morning ferry generally places Robben Island first and Table Mountain later. An afternoon ferry may allow Table Mountain to operate in the morning. The final sequence is confirmed before departure and may still change if weather, queues or supplier operations require it.
Submitting a preferred date does not reserve ferry or Cableway tickets. The shared departure is confirmed only after the operating group, passenger details, pickup plan, ticket categories, supplier availability, final price and payment terms have been accepted in writing.
This experience is ideal for travellers who want a meaningful, well-managed Cape Town day without arranging separate transport, ferry logistics and mountain timing themselves.
Ideal for
Solo travellers, couples, families and small groups wanting a coordinated shared day combining Cape Town history, heritage, ferry travel and mountain scenery.
Typical itinerary
Subject to availability, weather, supplier arrangements and guest preferences.
Shared collection from approved Cape Town pickup areas or confirmed meeting points, coordinated around the booked Robben Island ferry departure.
Arrive at the Nelson Mandela Gateway at the V&A Waterfront for passenger verification and ferry check-in. Guests must carry identification matching the ticket details.
Supplier-operated Robben Island Museum experience, including the ferry and official island visit. The Robben Island ferry and museum ticket are included, subject to supplier operations and the confirmed passenger ticket category.
A Waterfront meal or refreshment window is planned before or after the ferry according to the confirmed departure time. Meals and drinks are paid separately unless expressly included.
The guide checks Cableway operating status, weather, visibility and queues. When operating, the itinerary includes the Table Mountain Cableway and summit visit using the applicable standard ticket included in the quotation. Fast Track and other upgrades remain optional extras.
Coordinated return drop-offs at the confirmed Cape Town points, with timing adjusted around ferry operations, Cableway conditions, traffic and the shared route.

Fee information
Entrance fees: Robben Island ferry and museum tickets and the applicable standard Table Mountain Cableway ticket are included. Robben Island uses different visitor and age categories, while the Cableway uses different standard ticket categories. Fast Track and other ticket upgrades are not included unless expressly listed in the written booking confirmation.
Meals: Lunch and drinks are not included unless expressly listed in the quotation. Robben Island does not provide a full visitor restaurant; a small shop sells snacks and drinks, and visitors may bring food other than alcohol. The itinerary therefore plans a Waterfront meal or refreshment window before or after the ferry, according to the confirmed departure time.
Important information
Weather-dependent — Donovan will advise on adjustments.
What to wear: Wear comfortable walking shoes and layered clothing. Bring sun protection, a windproof jacket, water, personal medication and valid identification. Conditions on the ferry, island and mountain can differ considerably during the same day. Drones and tripods are not permitted on the standard Robben Island visit.
Weather alternative: When the ferry is cancelled, Table Mountain or agreed Cape Town landmarks may continue while the Robben Island ticket follows the supplier’s refund procedure. When the Cableway is closed or visibility is unsuitable, Robben Island may continue and the summit portion may be replaced by Signal Hill, Bo-Kaap, the Company’s Garden, Atlantic Seaboard viewpoints or the V&A Waterfront. During an official Cableway maintenance closure, the journey can operate only with an alternative city viewpoint plan or on another confirmed date.
Dietary: Dietary requirements and allergies should be disclosed before booking when Donovan is arranging a Waterfront meal reservation or packed food. Accommodation depends on the selected supplier confirming what it can safely provide.
Booking notice: Book as early as possible. At least 72 hours is recommended, but Robben Island tickets can sell out well in advance. Every passenger must provide the supplier-required details and carry matching identification. A preferred date remains a request until the shared departure, ferry ticket, Cableway plan, pickup route and final quotation are confirmed in writing.
Cancellation: Robben Island tickets are normally non-refundable and non-transferable once issued, except under the supplier’s stated exceptions such as a Museum-cancelled voyage or certain documented emergencies. Rescheduling normally requires at least 48 hours’ notice and may attract an administration fee. Missing the ferry departure can result in complete ticket forfeiture. Along the Shaws cancellation terms also apply to transport, guiding, Cableway tickets and other confirmed components. The exact applicable terms are disclosed before payment.
