Private Cape Town city tour
Table Mountain, Bo-Kaap and the City Bowl in one privately guided Cape Town day.
This private Cape Town city tour connects the city’s defining mountain, living heritage and historic centre without following a large-group timetable. Your booking has a private vehicle and Donovan Shaw or another approved registered guide, as confirmed before departure, with a guided Bo-Kaap heritage orientation, selected City Bowl landmarks and an Atlantic Seaboard route built into the normal full-day experience.
Table Mountain remains weather- and supplier-dependent. The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway controls operating decisions, capacity, maintenance and ticket terms, and a Cableway ticket is included only when the accepted booking confirmation expressly lists it. Supplier ticket prices are reconfirmed before payment. If the mountain cannot operate, the day is reordered or continued through agreed Cape Town alternatives rather than pretending the summit is guaranteed.
Table Mountain When Operating
The guide monitors conditions and operating status, but the Cableway remains a separate supplier and the summit cannot be guaranteed.
Guided Bo-Kaap Heritage
Bo-Kaap is approached as a living residential and religious community, with Cape Muslim history, architecture and respectful photography placed in context.
City Bowl & Atlantic Seaboard
A curated city orientation and coastal route connect Cape Town’s history, geography and ocean-facing neighbourhoods without racing through every possible landmark.
Cableway Ticket Prices Are Supplier-Controlled
The R2,595 starting price covers the Along the Shaws base private service. Standard, child and Fast Track Cableway tickets are separate unless the exact ticket type is listed in writing.
Bo-Kaap Is a Living Neighbourhood
Public-street photography is possible, but residents, private homes and religious spaces must be treated with consent and respect. Private or mosque access is never assumed.
Prefer a Full Cape Peninsula Day?
Choose the private Cape Point & Boulders Penguins tour when the Peninsula, Cape of Good Hope and coastal scenery matter more than the City Bowl.
Want Deeper Cultural-History Context?
Compare the private District Six & Langa journey when cultural and historical interpretation is the main purpose of the day.
Prefer Table Mountain with an Adventure Element?
Compare the private Table Mountain & tandem paragliding journey when a supplier-operated flight is a priority alongside the mountain.
Need a Different Combination?
Use the custom private Cape Town tour when your priorities do not fit comfortably inside this dedicated city-and-mountain route.

Your journey
Experience overview
Understand Cape Town through the places that define its geography, culture and everyday character: Table Mountain, Bo-Kaap, the historic City Bowl and the Atlantic Seaboard.
Begin with private collection from approved central Cape Town accommodation and a live operating check for Table Mountain. When the Cableway is open and conditions are suitable, the guide may place the summit experience early in the day so the city, harbour, Peninsula and coastline can be understood from above. The order remains flexible because wind, cloud, visibility, queues and maintenance can change throughout the day.
Bo-Kaap is a core experience on the normal itinerary. The guided orientation explores the neighbourhood as a living residential community shaped by Cape Muslim heritage, historic mosques, distinctive architecture, cobbled streets, forced-removal history, resistance and community traditions, with time for respectful photography.
The journey continues into the City Bowl, where we select a meaningful combination of landmarks rather than racing through a checklist. Depending on the group’s interests and the day’s conditions, this may include the Company’s Garden, Greenmarket Square, City Hall, the Castle of Good Hope, District Six viewpoints or the V&A Waterfront.
After a relaxed lunch or refreshment stop, continue along the Atlantic Seaboard through areas such as Green Point, Sea Point, Clifton and Camps Bay. Scenic viewpoints are selected according to weather, traffic and guest interests, creating a strong contrast between Cape Town’s historic centre, mountain slopes, beaches and ocean-facing neighbourhoods.
The private format allows the pace, route and interpretation to be adjusted around history, architecture, photography, food, mobility and family interests. Table Mountain remains supplier- and weather-dependent, but Bo-Kaap and the Cape Town city experience continue even when the Cableway cannot operate.
Your journey is coordinated by Along the Shaws and delivered by Donovan Shaw or another approved registered guide, as confirmed before departure. Exact timings and attraction access are subject to traffic, weather, supplier operations and the accepted booking confirmation.
Ideal for
First-time Cape Town visitors, couples, families, photographers and private groups wanting a culturally meaningful introduction to the city rather than a rushed sightseeing checklist.
Typical itinerary
Subject to availability, weather, supplier arrangements and guest preferences.

Live Table Mountain operating check. Donovan assesses Cableway status, visibility, wind, queues and the best operating order for the day.

Guided Bo-Kaap heritage orientation covering Cape Muslim history, architecture, mosques, cobbled streets, community traditions and respectful photography in a living residential neighbourhood.
Curated City Bowl orientation using a meaningful selection of landmarks such as the Company’s Garden, Greenmarket Square, City Hall, the Castle of Good Hope or District Six viewpoints.
Relaxed lunch or refreshment stop at a suitable city, Waterfront or Atlantic Seaboard venue. Meals and drinks are paid separately unless expressly included.
Private Atlantic Seaboard journey through Green Point, Sea Point, Clifton and Camps Bay, with selected scenic viewpoints according to weather, traffic and guest interests.
Estimated return to the agreed Cape Town drop-off point. Timing depends on Cableway operations, traffic, guest pace, meal duration and confirmed optional additions.
Route notes
Cape Town accommodation → live Table Mountain operating check → summit visit when operating and expressly included → guided Bo-Kaap heritage orientation → selected City Bowl landmarks → lunch or refreshment stop → Green Point, Sea Point, Clifton and Camps Bay viewpoints → Cape Town return. Fee information
Entrance fees: Cableway tickets, Bo-Kaap Museum admission and all other attraction tickets are included only when expressly listed in the accepted booking confirmation. The exact adult, child or Fast Track Cableway ticket type must be identified in writing. Public-street access and the guided Bo-Kaap orientation do not require a museum ticket.
Meals: Lunch and drinks are not included in the standard R2,595 starting price unless expressly listed. Time is allowed for a relaxed meal or refreshment stop at a suitable city, Waterfront or Atlantic Seaboard venue. Donovan can recommend and reserve an appropriate restaurant, while guests pay the venue directly unless a meal package is added.
Important information
Weather-dependent — Donovan will advise on adjustments.
What to wear: Wear comfortable walking shoes and layered clothing. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a windproof jacket, personal medication and valid identification where required for booked attractions. Dress and photography should remain respectful in Bo-Kaap’s residential and religious environment.
Weather alternative: The operating order may change to allow Table Mountain conditions time to improve. If the Cableway remains closed or visibility is unsuitable, the private tour continues with Bo-Kaap, the City Bowl, Signal Hill, the Atlantic Seaboard, the V&A Waterfront or another agreed Cape Town experience. Any Cableway ticket credit, refund or rescheduling follows the supplier terms applying to the confirmed ticket.
Dietary: Dietary requirements and allergies should be provided before booking when Donovan is arranging a meal venue. The selected restaurant must confirm what it can safely provide; cross-contamination-free preparation cannot be assumed without supplier confirmation.
Booking notice: Book at least 48 hours in advance where possible. Earlier booking is recommended during peak periods, when Cableway tickets or museum entry are requested, or when a distant collection area is involved.
Cancellation: Cancellation and rescheduling follow the accepted Along the Shaws Booking Terms together with any confirmed Cableway, museum, attraction, restaurant or supplier conditions. Prepaid tickets and special arrangements may become non-refundable after confirmation. Weather-related attraction closures are handled according to the applicable supplier terms.
