Table Mountain & Cape Town City shared tour

Table Mountain when operating, then Cape Town city landmarks on one coordinated small-group route.

Join a scheduled Cape Town sightseeing day for up to eleven guests with shared collection, a registered guide and a route coordinated around the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway’s live operating status. The standard Cableway ticket and Castle of Good Hope admission are included in this shared product; Fast Track and any other optional attraction remain separate unless confirmed in writing.

A Cableway ride, summit access and clear views are never guaranteed. The Cableway independently controls weather closures, capacity, maintenance and operating decisions. When it cannot operate, the group follows the agreed city-and-viewpoint alternative rather than presenting Table Mountain access as something Along the Shaws controls.

Your journey

Experience overview

Experience Table Mountain and Cape Town’s most recognisable city sights in a carefully coordinated small-group journey designed for solo travellers, couples and friends who prefer a shared experience without the scale of a large coach tour.

The day begins with shared collection from approved central Cape Town accommodation areas or designated meeting points. The operating order is planned around the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway’s live weather, visibility, queue and operating status. When the Cableway is open and the summit visit can operate, the group travels to the Lower Cableway Station using the standard Cableway ticket included in this product and enjoys time on the summit’s principal viewpoints and paved paths.

The Cableway experience is never presented as guaranteed. Strong wind, cloud, poor visibility, capacity, maintenance or another operational decision may close or delay the service. When the summit visit cannot operate, the group follows an agreed Cape Town city and viewpoint itinerary instead, which may include Bo-Kaap, the Company’s Garden, selected City Bowl landmarks, Signal Hill, Atlantic Seaboard viewpoints, the V&A Waterfront and the historic Castle of Good Hope.

After Table Mountain, or while waiting for a better operating window, the shared route continues through a curated selection of Cape Town landmarks. The final stops and sequence depend on traffic, attraction opening times, group pace, pickup routing and the conditions on the day. No optional attraction or ticket beyond the standard included Cableway ticket and Castle admission is treated as included unless it is listed in the written booking confirmation.

This is a genuine shared small-group product. Guests share the vehicle, guide, pickup route and timetable with other confirmed travellers. A solo guest may request one seat, but the departure is only confirmed once Donovan has verified the operating group, final price, pickup plan, vehicle and any additional ticket arrangements.

The experience is personally coordinated by Donovan and delivered by Donovan or another approved registered guide or host, as confirmed before departure. The emphasis is on clear communication, realistic timing, local context and a flexible route that responds responsibly to Cape Town’s weather and operating conditions.

Ideal for

Solo travellers, couples, friends and budget-conscious visitors wanting a more personal alternative to a large coach tour while still sharing the transport and schedule with other confirmed guests.

Fee information

Entrance fees: Table Mountain Cableway tickets and Castle of Good Hope admissions are included. Fast Track is not included and can be obtained at an additional cost. Prices, capacity and operating times remain controlled by the relevant attraction.

Meals: Lunch is not included in the standard shared-tour quotation unless expressly stated. A meal or refreshment stop may be included in the route, but the group must remain within the coordinated timetable. Dietary requirements should be disclosed before booking when a specific venue is being arranged.

Important information

Weather-dependent — Donovan will advise on adjustments.

What to wear: Wear comfortable walking shoes and layered clothing. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a windproof jacket, water and personal medication. Summit conditions can be colder, cloudier and windier than conditions in the city.

Weather alternative: The operating order may be changed to allow Table Mountain conditions time to improve. If the Cableway remains closed or visibility is unsuitable, the group follows an agreed Cape Town city and viewpoint route that may include Bo-Kaap, the Company’s Garden, Signal Hill, Atlantic Seaboard viewpoints or the V&A Waterfront. During the official annual winter-maintenance closure, the tour can operate only as an alternative city itinerary or be moved to another confirmed date.

Dietary: Dietary requirements, allergies and preferences should be disclosed before booking if Donovan is arranging a meal stop. Accommodation remains subject to the selected venue confirming what it can safely provide within the shared timetable.

Booking notice: Request seats at least 48 hours in advance where possible. A submitted date is an enquiry, not an instant reservation. The shared departure, final group, pickup window, final price, Cableway ticket type, Castle admission and payment terms must be confirmed in writing before the booking is accepted.

Cancellation: Submitting a preferred date does not create an immediate reservation. The seat is confirmed only after the shared departure, final price, pickup plan, ticket inclusions and payment terms are accepted in writing. Cancellation and rescheduling follow the accepted Along the Shaws Booking Terms together with any non-refundable Cableway or attraction-ticket conditions.

What guests say about Along the Shaws

These genuine reviews reflect guests’ experiences with Donovan and Along the Shaws and may relate to other Cape Town journeys, not this specific excursion.

“If I could give more than 5 stars, I would! Our guided tour of Cape Town was unforgettable, and a huge part of that was thanks to Donovan. From the moment we met him, it felt less like being with a tour guide and more like being with extended family. I was a mom traveling with my 8- and 6-year-old children and my mother-in-law, and Donovan made the experience perfect for all of us. He has a gift—he doesn't just show you the sights, he makes you feel them. He educated us with so much knowledge and passion, all while keeping the mood light with laughter and fun. He became part of our family fun instantly, making sure every moment was meaningful and memorable. Cape Town itself is breathtaking, but having Donovan guide us made it absolutely perfect. I wouldn't have changed a single thing about the experience. If you want someone who goes above and beyond, who connects with you on a personal level, and who makes the city come alive, Donovan is the one. Truly an experience we'll treasure forever. Thank you, Donovan!”
