Simon’s Town shark cage diving from Cape Town
A closer False Bay shark-cage journey from Cape Town, coordinated around a DFFE-permitted marine operator.
Along the Shaws coordinates the shared Cape Town pickup route, ground transport, supplier communication and guest itinerary. The appointed DFFE-permitted Simon’s Town or False Bay shark-cage operator controls the harbour, vessel, skipper and crew, cage, equipment, safety briefing, sea-condition decision and marine activity itself.
Simon’s Town offers substantially less road travel than the Gansbaai option and is normally planned as an extended half day of about 5–7 hours including Cape Town transport. Wildlife remains entirely natural: great whites, bronze whalers, sevengill sharks or any other species are never guaranteed, and exact equipment, meals, media, cage method and viewing-only arrangements depend on the confirmed operator package.
Closer to Cape Town
Simon’s Town and False Bay require much less road travel than Gansbaai, making this the stronger fit when time in Cape Town is limited.
DFFE-Permitted Marine Operator
The appointed False Bay operator, vessel and exact shark-cage package are confirmed before payment; Along the Shaws does not operate the marine activity.
Need Activity Transport Only?
Use the attraction and activity transfer service when the shark-cage booking is already arranged and you only need private ground transport to the supplier.
Planning a Peninsula Day?
Compare the dedicated Cape Point & Penguins tour rather than assuming the shark departure can always be combined with a full Peninsula route.
Prefer a Wildlife Cruise?
Compare the seasonal Hermanus whale-watching journey when a supplier-operated wildlife cruise is a better fit than shark-cage participation.
Need a Custom Combination?
Use the custom private Cape Town tour when the marine activity must be combined with other priorities and the route needs realistic timing checks.
Your journey
Experience overview
Simon’s Town offers Cape Town’s most convenient shark-cage experience, combining False Bay’s dramatic coastline with a shorter ground journey than the longer Gansbaai expedition.
This is a clearly defined Simon’s Town and False Bay product. It is designed for guests who want a professionally coordinated marine experience close to Cape Town, with the possibility of combining the day with compatible Cape Peninsula plans when timing, weather and supplier operations allow.
Along the Shaws coordinates the shared ground journey, pickup route, supplier communication and guest itinerary. The marine activity itself is conducted entirely by a licensed appointed Simon’s Town or False Bay operator, whose crew controls the vessel, cage, safety briefing, equipment, route and final go-or-no-go decision.
The journey normally begins with shared collection from approved Cape Town areas, followed by the transfer to the confirmed marine centre or harbour. After registration, guests receive the operator’s marine, vessel and cage-safety briefing before boarding.
Depending on the appointed operator and package, guests may use breath-hold viewing, snorkel-style viewing or an expressly confirmed surface-supplied-air system. Hookah equipment is not treated as a universal inclusion. Standard surface-level cage participation normally does not require scuba certification.
Guests who prefer not to enter the cage may request boat-based surface viewing, subject to the operator’s capacity, age rules and pricing. The confirmed quotation identifies whether the booking is for cage participation, boat-only viewing or a combination.
Wildlife is free-ranging. Possible encounters may include bronze whaler sharks, sevengill sharks, occasional great white sharks, rays, seals, dolphins, whales and marine birds, depending on season, route and natural conditions. No species, number of animals or behaviour is guaranteed, and the experience is not sold as a guaranteed great white encounter.
After the marine activity, guests return to Simon’s Town to change and complete any expressly included refreshments, meal or debrief. Shared transport then returns to Cape Town, or a separately quoted compatible Peninsula extension may continue where the supplier schedule and operating conditions allow.
Equipment and catering vary between operators. Wetsuits, masks, towels, photographs, video, meals, refreshments and surface-supplied-air equipment are included only when specifically listed in the accepted quotation.
This journey is strongly weather- and sea-dependent. Wind, swell, visibility, harbour conditions and the operator’s safety assessment may change or cancel a departure at short notice. Wildlife absence is not automatically grounds for a refund; any voucher, credit, rescheduling or refund follows the appointed operator’s written terms.
The experience is coordinated by Donovan and delivered with Donovan or another approved driver-guide for the ground transport, as confirmed before departure. A submitted date request creates an enquiry only and does not automatically reserve transport, a vessel seat or cage participation.
Ideal for
Adventure travellers, wildlife enthusiasts, photographers, solo travellers requesting a shared seat, visitors with limited time in Cape Town and guests who prefer a closer False Bay experience over the longer Gansbaai road journey.
Typical itinerary
Subject to availability, weather, supplier arrangements and guest preferences.
Supplier, vessel and weather confirmation. Donovan verifies the licensed operator, reporting time, sea forecast, pickup route, child or medical requirements, viewing method and exact package inclusions.
Collection from approved Cape Town accommodation or the confirmed meeting point. The exact window follows the operator’s reporting time.
Travel to the confirmed False Bay marine centre or harbour, with enough time allowed for traffic, registration and boarding requirements.
Passenger registration, required forms and any expressly included refreshments at the appointed operator base.
The licensed operator explains the vessel, cage, viewing method, confirmed equipment, emergency procedures and current sea conditions.
Board the supplier-operated vessel and travel to the operating area selected by the crew according to weather, sea conditions and current wildlife information.
Guests participate in allocated cage groups or remain on the vessel as confirmed. Wildlife sightings, species, numbers and behaviour remain entirely natural and cannot be guaranteed.
Return to the operator base to change, collect belongings and receive any meal, refreshments, photographs, video or debrief expressly included in the package.
Shared transfer to the confirmed drop-off points, or a separately quoted compatible Peninsula extension where timing and operations allow. Final timing depends on the vessel return, traffic and shared route.

Fee information
Entrance fees: The marine operator fee, harbour charges, cage access, conservation contributions, equipment and other supplier costs are included only when expressly listed. A separate Boulders Penguin Colony, Cape Point or other Peninsula visit is not part of the standard shark-cage experience unless specifically added and confirmed.
Meals: Meals and refreshments vary by operator and are included only when expressly listed. A pre-trip snack, onboard refreshment or post-trip meal must not be assumed. Dietary requirements and allergies must be disclosed before the supplier package is confirmed.
Important information
Weather-dependent — Donovan will advise on adjustments.
What to wear: Wear warm layered clothing, a windproof and water-resistant outer layer, closed non-slip shoes and sun protection. Bring sunglasses, sunscreen, a securely fitted hat, a personal towel unless told otherwise, dry clothing, personal medication, valid identification and a small waterproof bag for valuables. Follow the operator’s final packing instructions.
Weather alternative: The appointed marine operator makes the final safety decision based on wind, swell, visibility, sea state and harbour conditions. If the vessel cannot depart, Along the Shaws coordinates the supplier’s rescheduling, credit or refund process and may propose a Simon’s Town, Cape Peninsula or other agreed alternative. Supplier refunds and already-incurred transport costs may be handled separately.
Dietary: Dietary requirements, allergies and cross-contamination concerns must be supplied before any operator meal or refreshment arrangement is confirmed. Vessel and operator catering can be limited and cannot be assumed to be allergen-free.
Booking notice: At least 72 hours is recommended, with earlier booking advisable during peak periods, for families, medical or mobility considerations, and limited-capacity departures. A date request is an enquiry only and does not reserve a vessel seat or cage place.
Cancellation: The accepted Along the Shaws Booking Terms apply together with the appointed marine operator’s weather, cancellation, rescheduling, late-arrival, no-show and refund conditions. Supplier deposits or tickets may become non-refundable after confirmation. Missed pickups or late arrival can result in a missed vessel departure. Wildlife absence is not automatically grounds for a refund unless the appointed operator provides a written sighting policy.
