Custom private Cape Town tour
Start with what matters to you. Build one realistic private Cape Town day around it.
A good custom itinerary is not a blank promise to squeeze every attraction into one day. Share your dates, group size, interests, preferred pace, mobility needs and essential priorities. The route is then designed around geography, realistic driving time, weather exposure, opening hours and confirmed supplier availability.
The normal result is one major anchor experience plus two or three geographically compatible supporting stops. There is no generic package price because route, duration, vehicle and third-party costs vary. Before payment, you receive a written itinerary and personalised quotation showing the private vehicle, assigned registered guide, duration, collection area, included tickets or supplier experiences and any special arrangements. Public attractions and supplier-operated activities may still be shared with other visitors.
1. Share Your Priorities
Tell us what you actually want from the day: scenery, history, food, wine, wildlife, photography, family time, accessibility or a special occasion.
2. Receive a Realistic Route
The route is shaped around compatible locations and practical travel times rather than an exhausting list of disconnected attractions.
Quotation Only — No Generic Base Package Price
The final price depends on the confirmed route, hours, group size, vehicle, collection area and every third-party ticket, tasting, meal or supplier activity. The written quotation is the commercial source of truth.
Prefer a Proven City Route?
Compare the private Cape Town City, Bo-Kaap and Table Mountain route if those are already your main priorities.
Planning More Than One Day?
Use the custom Cape Town itinerary planner when your interests need to be spread intelligently across several days rather than forced into one.
Cape Peninsula Priority?
If Cape Point, the Cape of Good Hope and Boulders Beach are non-negotiable, compare the dedicated private Peninsula tour.
Winelands Priority?
If wine is the anchor, compare the dedicated private Stellenbosch and Franschhoek tour before building a broader custom day.
Cultural History Priority?
Compare the private District Six & Langa cultural-history tour when those places are the central reason for the day rather than one element inside a broader custom route.
Your journey
Experience overview
A genuinely custom Cape Town journey should not be a blank promise or a list of disconnected attractions. It should feel personal while still being realistic, well paced and intelligently designed.
Begin by telling Donovan what matters to you: iconic scenery, history, culture, food, wine, wildlife, photography, gardens, family time, accessibility, a celebration or simply a relaxed day with room to breathe. He then considers geography, driving time, weather exposure, opening hours, supplier availability, your preferred pace and the practical needs of every guest.
The result is a coherent private route rather than an exhausting checklist. One major anchor experience is normally combined with two or three geographically compatible supporting experiences, leaving enough time for interpretation, photographs, conversation, meals and unexpected moments.
- Cape Town Icons and Culture — Table Mountain, Bo-Kaap, the City Bowl and the Atlantic Seaboard.
- Coast and Peninsula — Chapman’s Peak, Cape Point, Boulders Beach and Simon’s Town or Kalk Bay.
- Wine, Food and Gardens — Constantia wine, Kirstenbosch, a carefully chosen lunch and selected city viewpoints.
- Photography and Hidden Perspectives — sunrise or golden-hour planning, architecture, neighbourhoods, coastal scenery and lesser-known viewpoints.
- Family-Friendly Cape Town — age-appropriate attractions, shorter transfers, flexible meal stops and realistic pacing.
These are starting points, not fixed packages. Donovan will recommend what belongs together, explain what does not fit comfortably into one day and propose a better alternative when a requested combination would create excessive driving or rushed experiences.
The private vehicle, registered guide and agreed ground itinerary are exclusive to your booking. Public attractions, restaurants, ferries, Cableway cabins, tasting rooms and supplier-operated activities may still be shared with other visitors.
Before payment, you receive a written itinerary and personalised quotation showing the confirmed route, duration, collection area, included tickets or supplier experiences and any special arrangements. Nothing is assumed, hidden or added without explanation.
Your journey is coordinated by Donovan and delivered by Donovan or another approved registered guide, as confirmed before departure. The route remains flexible within the agreed service area and duration so it can respond intelligently to weather, traffic, queues and guest pace.
Ideal for
Returning visitors, first-time guests who dislike generic packages, couples, families, photographers, celebration groups, travellers with mobility considerations and anyone wanting Cape Town shaped around their own priorities.
Typical itinerary
Subject to availability, weather, supplier arrangements and guest preferences.
Personal consultation. Share your date, guest numbers, collection area, essential places, interests, preferred pace, mobility requirements, children’s ages, food preferences, budget considerations and any special occasion.
Intelligent route design. Donovan checks geography, driving time, weather exposure, opening hours, supplier availability and commercial practicality before sending a written itinerary and personalised quotation.
Private collection from the confirmed accommodation or meeting point. The guide reviews the day’s operating conditions and final route before departure.
Primary experience. Begin with the day’s most important weather-sensitive or limited-capacity priority, such as Table Mountain, Cape Point, a cultural experience, a garden, a wildlife activity or another confirmed anchor.
Lunch and secondary experience. Continue to a geographically sensible supporting stop and a suitable meal venue, with dietary requirements and reservations confirmed in advance where needed.
Final experience and scenic route. Complete the agreed day with another compatible attraction, neighbourhood, tasting, viewpoint or relaxed return journey without forcing an unrealistic checklist.
Live itinerary management. The guide may reorder stops around weather, traffic, queues and guest pace while protecting the agreed service area, duration and confirmed supplier bookings.
Private return to the agreed drop-off point. The final time depends on route distance, supplier timing, meal duration, traffic and any approved extended-hours arrangement.
Route notes
There is no fixed route. Donovan designs the day around one main priority and two or three geographically compatible supporting experiences, then confirms realistic travel times, supplier access, meal windows and weather alternatives. Major additions, distant destinations or extended hours require a revised quotation.

Fee information
Tasting fees: Wine tastings, food pairings and cellar experiences are included only when the exact estate and experience are listed in the accepted quotation. Supplier menus, prices and availability can change, so no tasting should be assumed to be included.
Entrance fees: Cableway tickets, national-park admissions, museums, gardens, ferries, wildlife activities and all other ticketed experiences are included only when expressly listed in the accepted quotation. Every third-party cost is distinguished from the private ground service.
Meals: Meals and drinks are included only when expressly listed. Donovan can recommend and reserve a suitable restaurant according to route, pace, dietary requirements and occasion. Guests pay the venue directly unless a set menu, allowance or prepaid meal package appears in the quotation.
Important information
Weather-dependent — Donovan will advise on adjustments.
What to wear: Wear comfortable walking shoes and layered clothing suitable for the confirmed route. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, a windproof layer, personal medication and valid identification where required. More specific guidance is provided with the final itinerary.
Weather alternative: Weather is treated as a planning variable, not an afterthought. Donovan may reverse the operating order, move weather-sensitive experiences, use agreed alternatives or recommend another date. Unsafe conditions, poor visibility and supplier closures are never ignored merely to preserve the original sequence.
Dietary: Dietary requirements, allergies and cross-contamination concerns must be provided before restaurant, tasting or supplier reservations are requested. Accommodation depends on the selected venue confirming what it can safely provide.
Booking notice: Allow at least 72 hours for a straightforward custom day. Earlier booking is strongly recommended during peak periods, for large groups, celebration arrangements, popular restaurants, ferries, wine estates, wildlife activities or limited-capacity attractions.
Cancellation: Cancellation and rescheduling follow the accepted Along the Shaws Booking Terms together with every disclosed attraction, restaurant, ticket and supplier condition. Planning work, prepaid tickets, deposits and special arrangements may become non-refundable after confirmation. The applicable terms are disclosed before payment.
