Private Stellenbosch wine tour from Cape Town

Start in Stellenbosch, add Franschhoek, and experience two Cape Winelands regions in one private day.

Stellenbosch is one of South Africa’s best-known wine destinations and a natural starting point for a private wine tour from Cape Town. Its wine route combines historic Cape Dutch estates, boutique producers and a broad range of cultivars, while a private itinerary allows the day to be shaped around confirmed tastings, preferred wine styles and your group’s pace.

From Stellenbosch, the route continues into Franschhoek for extra regional variety, mountain-valley scenery and time for an optional lunch or village stop. Across the full day, three wine experiences are confirmed for the booked itinerary, with a registered guide, private vehicle and return transport from approved Cape Town collection areas.

Exact estates, tasting formats and supplier components are confirmed in writing before payment. Wine-tasting and pairing fees for the accepted itinerary are included; lunch, purchases, extra tastings and optional upgrades remain separate unless expressly listed.

Why Stellenbosch?

A deep concentration of wine estates, historic Cape Dutch character and wide wine-style variety make Stellenbosch especially strong for first-time Cape Winelands visitors.

Franschhoek Included

Franschhoek adds a second wine region, restaurant choice and dramatic valley scenery without turning the day into a rushed estate checklist.

Three Confirmed Wine Experiences

The day is built around three confirmed wine experiences chosen for the booked date, rather than publishing fixed wineries that may not be available.

Private Pace, Registered Guide

Your vehicle, guide and ground itinerary are dedicated to your booking, giving couples and small groups a more personal day than a fixed shared departure.

Private or Shared?

Compare the shared Stellenbosch & Franschhoek departure when a scheduled group format suits you better than a private vehicle and individually coordinated pace.

Private Tour or Wine Tram?

Compare private guiding, estate choice, flexibility and driving logistics with the separate supplier-operated Franschhoek Wine Tram.

Pickup & return

Your journey

Experience overview

Spend a full day exploring two of South Africa’s most celebrated wine regions on a private journey shaped around your tastes, pace and preferred style of experience.

Stellenbosch combines Cape Dutch architecture, historic streets and a broad range of estates producing everything from elegant sparkling wines and crisp whites to structured reds. Franschhoek offers a more intimate valley atmosphere, destination restaurants, boutique producers and dramatic mountain scenery.

The day is planned around three thoughtfully selected wine experiences. These may include guided tastings, cellar visits, food or chocolate pairings, boutique producers or another confirmed Winelands experience tailored to the group’s preferences. The itinerary includes a short Stellenbosch orientation followed by two confirmed estate experiences, time in Franschhoek for an optional lunch or village visit, and a final tasting or selected experience.

Your journey is personally coordinated by Donovan and delivered by Donovan or another approved registered guide, as confirmed before departure. Preferred estates and experiences may be requested, but every reservation remains subject to opening days, capacity, private events, seasonal schedules and supplier confirmation.

The published price starts from R2,495 per person and covers the private transport, guiding and itinerary-coordination services listed under Included, together with wine-tasting and pairing fees for the confirmed itinerary. Lunch, meals, beverages, purchases, optional activities, upgrades and any estate or service not expressly listed in the final itinerary are additional unless confirmed in writing. The final quotation confirms the selected estates, lunch arrangements, optional activities and every included service before payment.

This experience is ideal for couples, small groups, first-time wine visitors, celebrations, non-drinkers who want to enjoy the Winelands and travellers who prefer a personal, unhurried day instead of a fixed shared schedule.

“I can't thank Donovan enough for making our trip to Cape Town a wonderful learning experience and so much fun. He brought the energy and kept our group smiling. We were a large group of nearly 35 people. He kept us moving and on time, knew how to anticipate traffic and group needs, knew all the great spots to see, and was super flexible. Donovan knows this city and it's history well. I loved our chats, and left Cape Town feeling like I now know an amazing guide to call up when I return and also a friend. He's the man!”
